The builder had finished in the cool grey that is in every third new-build on the Eastside, and it photographed flat. We warmed every room with oak, clay and brass, then kept the floor plan deliberately under-furnished — in a house this size the mistake is filling it, not leaving it empty. Under-furnishing made the square footage read larger than it measured.
